Personal Debt Crisis Deepens - Cable8.11.42pm BST (GMT +0100) Wed 25th Oct 2006 Commenting on the news that Debt.co.uk, a leading private debt management company, is expanding its operations in order to cope with demand, Liberal Democrat Shadow Chancellor, Vince Cable MP said: "People are realising that their debts are going to catch up with them and are desperate to seek advice and a way out. With interest rates likely to rise, this debt distress will intensify. "The Government has very largely overlooked what is becoming a very serious and deteriorating problem. "I have been calling for the introduction of a network of centres giving independent, generic, financial advice as well as 'health warnings' on credit products. "For companies like Debt.co.uk, debt distress is a business opportunity; for most seriously indebted people it is a disaster." ENDS Notes to Editors Debt.co.uk are expanding from being able to process 130 IVAs per month to 500 per month.
