ONS FIGURES HIGHLIGHT BROWN'S MISMANAGEMENT - CABLE11.23.00am BST (GMT +0100) Thu 20th Jul 2006 Responding to the latest release on public finances published today by the Office of National Statistics (ONS), Liberal Democrat Shadow Chancellor, Vince Cable MP said: "The extent to which Gordon Brown is mismanaging the public finances is becoming increasingly apparent. "These estimates, while notoriously erratic, do not bode well for the Chancellor's own prediction of a budget deficit of £7bn in 2006-07." Commenting on a forthcoming ONS release, to be published on September 20th, which will include revisions to public sector debt figures, Mr Cable said: "These revisions are likely to further deteriorate the position of the Government finances, underlining the need for an honest and transparent system for assessing fiscal objectives."
