Latest Trade Figures Confirm Imbalanced Economy

12.28.26pm BST (GMT +0100) Thu 8th Apr 2004

Responding to today's release of the UK trade figures for February 2004, Malcolm Bruce MP, Liberal Democrat Trade & Industry Spokesperson, said: "If the figures for the first two months continue for the rest of the year, the UK economy is heading for another record deficit."

"While house prices and consumer spending are booming, manufacturers and exporters are still facing a tough time. The Government cannot simply rely on the Bank of England to resolve this fundamental imbalance."
