EU Not To Blame For Chancellor's Inaction On UK Economy
12.00.00am GMT Mon 10th Mar 2003
Commenting on reports that Gordon Brown will today light a 'bonfire' of EU regulations and red tape in his speech to the Centre for European Reform, Matthew Taylor MP, Liberal Democrat Shadow Chancellor, said:
"By turning his fire on the EU at this time Gordon Brown is trying to shift the blame for Britain's imbalanced economy and limping manufacturing sector."
"What British business really needs is a bonfire of the Chancellor's own regulations and red tape. It is the Chancellor who has increased tax complication in the UK by a third since taking office."
"The UK's economic woes are clearly made in Britain."
