Eddie George Casts Doubt On Chancellor's Tax Revenue Projections
12.00.00am GMT Tue 4th Mar 2003
In response to Liberal Democrat questioning in the Treasury Select Committee, the Governor of the Bank of England today cast doubt on the Chancellor's projections on tax revenues. He said he was "concerned" that there would be a shortfall on tax revenue projections.
Norman Lamb MP, Liberal Democrat Treasury Select Committee Member, said:
"When the Governor of the Bank of England casts doubt on the Chancellor's projections, it is clear we can expect yet further downwards recalculations when the budget is finally announced."
"We are looking at yet another 'Brown Hole' in the UK's finances."
"The NAO must be brought in to audit the Chancellor's figures to ensure projections are credible."
