Commenting on the publication of the latest (2002) figures of the National Land Use Database of Previously-Developed Land (NLUD-PDL), which show that available brownfield sites across the country could be used to provide 870,000 new homes, Liberal Democrat Shadow ODPM Secretary Edward Davey MP said:

"These figures show the massive potential for providing affordable homes that is going to waste."

"The Government talks about building new homes and using brownfield land, but the reality is that far too much of it is laying idle while fields are concreted over."

"These figures should shame the Government into action on cleaning up and using brownfield sites and protecting the countryside."
