Uncertainty Of Government Efficiency Claims Alarming - Cable12.01.00am BST (GMT +0100) Thu 11th Oct 2007 Commenting on today's [Thursday] Public Accounts Committee report The Efficiency Programme: A Second Review of Progress which found that only 25% of government efficiency savings were verifiable, Liberal Democrat Deputy Leader and Shadow Chancellor, Vince Cable MP said: "It is alarming that three-quarters of the Government's claimed efficiency savings have been cast into doubt. "The Government's figures have been revealed as unreliable a mere 48 hours after the Chancellor's promise to deliver a further £30 billion in efficiency savings. "It appears that many of the claimed efficiency gains are unverifiable or nonexistent. "How can Gordon Brown hope to implement large and complex projects such as ID cards, when his departments are not even able to measure performance against their own targets?"
