Chancellor Must Explain Northern Rock Situation To The House Of Commons - Cable11.32.00am GMT Sat 17th Nov 2007 The Liberal Democrats will table an Urgent Question on Monday calling for the Chancellor to come to the House of Commons and explain the position of Northern Rock and the status of Government loans. Commenting, Liberal Democrat Acting Leader and Shadow Chancellor, Vince Cable MP said: "The Government may be hoping for a knight in shining armour from the private sector to take on the bank and pay back Government loans but this looks highly unlikely. "For the Government the least worst option would be to nationalise Northern Rock to safeguard taxpayers money, and then to sell the bank on in due course. "The Chancellor must come to the House of Commons to explain the position of the bank on Monday."
